personal curriculum #1

Hello!!

Recently there’s been a trend where people across social media share their personal curriculum. Meaning, what they’re learning about and consuming by choice. I think this is pretty interesting given the time we are living in and a world that is to put it simply, falling into shambles.

So, I’ve decided to share some free, and accessible, online articles, that I’ve been reading for pleasure (a very shocking thing in grad school, basically everything I consume is for grades, I’m barely even reading books anymore). Regardless, I’ve been expanding my knowledge for my self, I guess one might say, I’m a nerd or perpetual student and I thought I’d share some of the interesting things I’ve been reading lately.

Starting with Virginia Woolf, I’ve been trying to read her books, I read A Room of One’s Own and started Waves and have not gotten past page 20 I think. Really struggling with her writing, given that Waves is her most expiremental it makes sense, but here’s a nice article I found that surface level touches on Sylvère Lotringer’s On Virginia Woolf . Since reading this I now want to explore this and read Lotringer’s work. I find the relationship of the people in her life to the fame she achieved even in her own time is fascinating and this appears to touch on that. The article can be found here

Recently in one of my classes Sky Goodden a graduate of OCAD’s MFA Criticism & Curatorial Practice program (the one I’m in!!) came to speak about Momus, of which she is the founder. Momus is an international online art publication and podcast (one of the early art publications to get into the podcasting sphere) that is committed to reading our cultural context in a deeper way. Prior to momus, she worked at Artinfo Canada the Canadian branch of Louise Blouin’s Artinfo. For some reason Blouin became a fascinating individual to me, and I’ve since gone down a bit of a wormhome learning about her rise (or more like intense, & intentional social climbing) and incredibly public downfall. Artlyst has an interesting article that summarizes her rise in fall and you can choose for yourself if you want to join me on the wormhole. The article can be found here

I hope this is maybe of interest to some people, and I plan on continuing to do little updates like this and linking out to some interesting art world (or not) articles, content and discourse to engage with
