CJLO Funding Drive!
Hello Everyone!
October 24th - November 8th is a super special time for me! If you didn’t know I’ve had a radio show at Concordia University’s radio station CJLO 1690AM for over 2.5 years now and every fall we do a funding drive. My show is Hittin all the Bases, every Tuesday from 8-9pm, and if you wanna check out the archives head over here to listen
What’s a funding drive? you may ask. Well.. I’ll tell you.
It’s basically a short term donation/fundraising sprint we do every year. We have special programming & events for this time to highlight and showcase the stations involvement in the Montreal music community and the NDG Community.
Why does CJLO need money? Great question
The radio station needs money to survive, like most things do in today’s world. We use the money to update our station equipment (new DJ controller, monitors, mics etc.) so our incredible team of DJs can continue to bring amazing 24/7 programming on air & through the online articles/journalism (producing concerts and workshops that fairly compensate local, independant musicians and artists) and continue to do the incredible events every year. Concordia students are hired for staff positions like Station Manager, Music Director etc. Additionally, with all the tuition hikes and budget cuts with English universities in Montreal/Quebec enrollment is down and Concordia’s budget is wayyyyy down meaning the station gets significantly less money from student fee levys.
About 6K of what is rasied will go to hiring Concordia students. Hiring students gives job oppertunity and income oppertunity, and an introductory position within the media world, event organizing etc. (very important skills of which i am lucky to have learned)
About 7K will be going to the concerts and workshops that FAIRLY compensate the musicians and artists and build up the Montreal music scene.
Purchasing new equipment allows more programming and workshops to be created to continue to teach the Montreal and Concordia community more skills i.e. learning DJ skills, live remote radio skills (broadcasting live from a specific location) etc.

If you donate 5-15$ you can reach out to me with the confirmation and you can request 1 song and I’ll play it on air and give you a little shoutout.
If you donate 20-35$ you can reach out with the confirm and request up to 5 songs and I’ll play some on air and give you a shoutout.
If you donate 40-75$ reach out with the confirm and I’ll create an entire playlist for you (give me your vibes or no vibes at all) for you to discover new Canadian musicians and new music.
If you donate 80-100$ you can reach out with the confirm and we can work together to create an entire show based on what you want to hear! This is a super sick oppertunity to learn the behind the scenes of what goes into creating radio programming.
